Ask five people in the ACP industry what coating they use, and you'll get five different answers. PVDF, FEVE, PE, HDPE, Nano, super-durable polyester — the names pile up. Most of the time, the right answer for your project comes down to two questions: how long do you need it to last, and what conditions will it face?
ALUCOVERBOND applies four main coating systems. Each is a different resin chemistry with different durability, gloss retention, and cost.
The industry standard for exterior ACP, originally developed under the brand name Kynar 500®. The fluorocarbon resin gives exceptional resistance to UV, acid rain, salt spray and industrial pollution. We bake the coating at 230–250°C in 2–3 passes to build a 25μm+ film.
Often sold under the Lumiflon brand. FEVE is the next step up from PVDF for the most demanding applications. Where PVDF loses a small amount of gloss over 20 years, FEVE keeps it. The resin also allows a much wider color range, including high-gloss and pearlescent effects.
The workhorse of interior and short-term-exterior ACP. Polyester is a well-understood resin — easy to apply, available in a huge range of colors, and a fraction of the cost of fluorocarbon. The downside is weatherability: in direct sun, standard PE starts to chalk and fade after 5–7 years.
A modified polyester with a denser cross-link and a matte texture. The matte look hides fingerprints and surface imperfections — which is why it's a favorite for retail interiors and elevator interiors.
Use this rule of thumb:
Choosing the cheapest coating is rarely the cheapest decision. A 30% saving on PE-coated exterior that needs replacing in 8 years is a 100% premium over PVDF that lasts 20.
All four coatings go through the same line: a three-roller reversal precision coater in a sealed, dust-free environment. The aluminum coil enters pre-treated (our chemosynthesis line), passes through the coater where the resin is applied in 2–3 layers, then enters a 4-zone curing oven. Final thickness is 25–30μm. The result is a coating that is mechanically bonded to the metal — no flaking, no peeling, even after 20 years outdoors.
